Palaye Royal

On February 7th, 2025 Palaye Royal came to Calgary on their Death or Glory tour. Freezing fans lined up around The Palace awaiting entry. Death or Glory came out on August 30, 2024, featuring 11 groovy art/glam rock bangers. The three brothers Hailing from Las Vegas create soulful music centered around the extreme highs and lows of life. The band’s style is centered around high society, others have labeled their style and music “Brit Rock” because of this. For their hour-and-a-half set, Palaye Royal played a good mix of old and new songs which was pleasantly surprising for an album tour. Only 6 of the 15 songs played were from the new record—the 3-song encore thrilled fans. The encore consisted of classics Dead To Me, Lonely, and Mr. Doctor Man. Palaye Royale (namely the front-man, Remington) maintained a contagiously high energy throughout the show, going so far as to climb the balcony and the lighting set up to hype fans up near the end of the show. They mentioned during their set that the last time they played Calgary was at the historic Tubby Dog; which fostered a sense of comradery with the crowd making the show feel even more personal, like old friends reuniting. Singer Remington and Guitarist Sebastian were extremely audience-focused and interacted with the crowd as much as they could, jumping into the pit at every opportunity. To my surprise, Remington's vocals were almost better than on the album. It’s not every day you find a band that’s better live. The pure power behind his vocals was impressive and incredibly entertaining to watch. Lastly (and my favorite part) Palaye Royal was very courteous to myself and the other four photographers working the pit. They were more focused on the crowd but they made an effort to look at cameras and hold poses for a few moments, making for some incredible shots. Palaye Royal was a pleasure to watch and photograph and I am excited to see what they do next.
